OOLITIC, IND. – 11/25/15 – Indiana Limestone Company recently welcomed 10 architects to its quarries and fabrication shops for a seminar on the firm’s renowned limestone products. The event, cosponsored with the Indiana chapter of the Association of Licensed Architects, was accredited by the American Institute of Architects, with each participant earning three credits.

The program consisted of tours of an active Indiana limestone quarry, fabrication shops, and areas of Indiana University highlighting the use of Indiana limestone on campus, led by Dr. Brian Keith of the Indiana Geological Survey, Bloomington.

“It was a great privilege to welcome these distinguished architects to Indiana Limestone,” said Craig Alwine, ILCO central states regional manager and an affiliate member of the ALA Indiana Chapter Board of Directors. “It was clear that they appreciated the opportunity to learn about sourcing and capabilities of one of America’s great construction materials, stone that has been featured in the nation’s iconic buildings for more than 150 years.”

“The Indiana Limestone quarry and IU campus tour was a fantastic event that everyone involved enjoyed,” said Jeff Stoner, an architect with Red Architecture Planning Design LLC in Indianapolis and president of ALA’s Indiana chapter. “I found the quarry tour to be extremely informative and speaking as an architect, it was just fun. Seeing the process from the quarry, to excavation, rough cutting and then final finishing was great. The campus tour was a nice way to end the day. I especially enjoyed hearing about the construction of the new School of Global and International Studies building from the fabricator himself. I only hope that others from ALA will get to experience it in the future.”
