‘Hallmark’ Hoosier Company Re-Emerging, Planning Growth
BLOOMINGTON – A well-known Indiana company is moving its headquarters to Bloomington. Oolitic-based Indiana Limestone Co. says the new space in the former downtown office of the Ken Nunn law firm will provide room for additional growth and help the 90 year-old business attract and retain talent. Chief Executive Officer Tom Quigley says the company has rebounded from a “distressed state” to include 165 employees, similar to its labor force before bankruptcy.
The company was acquired last year by Illinois-based Wynnchurch Capital Ltd. for $26 million and named Quigley CEO shortly after taking over following Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He says Indiana Limestone has been “reinvented” and moves such as dropping its cut stone business has the company returning “back to where it was a few years ago.” Quigley says Indiana Limestone is a “great brand” that is synonymous with its industry in the same way brands such as Kleenex are with their respective products.
Quigley tells Inside INdiana Business the company has added 60 employees since he took over and the new headquarters is a sign of additional “avenues for growth.” He says locating in Bloomington puts the company in the middle of a “vibrant community with a strong diversified culture” that can help with talent attraction and retention efforts. The office is still near the company’s quarrying operations and is only blocks away from the Indiana University campus, which features decades of examples of craftsmanship using the material. Quigley says the new office will serve as a showcase of limestone and give the company options for the future.
With an eye toward external growth, Indiana Limestone announced a collaboration last month with advisory firm Quarton Partners in Michigan to help identify potential acquisitions and new business partnerships. The company’s heritage dates back to the 1800s.
